With the Sony Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and Xperia T2, Sony also offers the trusted good hardware, finally packaged in a fresh new design. Android Planet try the three devices already.
Check the Sony Xperia XA2 hands-on
While most of the manufacturers their designs every year to refresh and improve, loved Sony for a very long time stuck to the same design, with large bezels around the screen. It was a solid chorus in each Sony review: good smartphones, but that design was getting quite outdated. This year, the company seems finally to criticism to have listened, because the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra have a refreshed design.
On the front you will still find bars above and below the image, but which are significantly shrunk as compared to last year. In addition, the image all the way to the side. The sharp, straight angles are also replaced by a pleasant, raised side. The XA2 is the first Xperia phone in years, which is nice in the hand, and not just a sturdy block of metal. All voorkantvullend is the screen, unfortunately, still clearly recognizable as a Sony device. The 5.2 inch-XA2 is still pretty handy, but the XA2 Ultra with its 6 inch screen is somewhat on the bulky side.
Formerly processed Sony the finger print scanner in the power button on the side. By the screen that continues around to the side, is that now not possible any more. Instead, the scanner, like most manufacturers, on the back. The scanner has a small notch and is therefore easy to find by touch. It also has a healthy distance from the camera, so you don’t accidentally put your finger in the way. Revolutionary steps are not, but nonetheless, it is a welcome improvement.
Smooth camera with 4K
The back is a 23 megapixel camera, with support for slow motion and filming in 4K. Who shoot on first sight, beautiful photos, though we have him not extensively tested. In a situation with enough light makes the camera fast pictures that are colour-fast and sharp. To the front, an 8 megapixel camera with an extra wide lens, allowing you to easily group photos shoots.
In the camera app, you choose between ‘normal’ selfies and group shots. That last option seems to be the image a little bit like a fisheye photo with light, distorted perspectives, but what we got were effortless four people at the same time in the picture. The Xperia XA2 Ultra is even a double selfiecamera paramount, with a second 16 megapixel-lens optical image stabilization supports. That prevents shaky images if you with this camera films.
Strong Android-based
The base of the Xperia XA2 Ultra is in good order, such as we get from Sony are used to. The Snapdragon 630-chip is powerful and is assisted by 3GB of RAM in the Xperia XA2 and 4GB ram in the XA2 Ultra. Because Sony also but a few modifications it makes to Android, everything runs extra smoothly. Also the storage space (32GB) is more than bed. The device runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo), which the company is a indent for it on the competition. The Samsung Galaxy A8, another midrange smartphone that will soon appear, yet it is still with Android 7.1 (Nougat).
Sony we know for years as a very reliable Android manufacturer. The aircraft of the company have good cameras, great software and hardware that is more than powerful enough. Unfortunately the design is already too long a big put off. With the Xperia XA2 takes Sony that finally. The most flashy flagship is still not, but the time of bulky bakbeesten seems to be finally over. That alone makes the Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra promising devices in order to keep an eye on.
Sony Xperia L2: cheap but spacious
The Xperia L2 is the entry-level model of the series. With a suggested retail price of 249 euros, it is the cheapest smartphone that the manufacturer offers at the moment. Still, you need the L2 is certainly not to be underestimated in terms of hardware. It is the successor of the Xperia L1 from 2017, also a fairly complete unit. Thus, the L2 a large 5.5 inch screen with a hd resolution. On the back of a finger print scanner to find. The unit also has a spacious 32GB of storage and 3GB of ram.
The design is less premium. The case still feels good and sturdy, but this time there are (small) edges on the side. On the back you will find a 13 megapixel camera that the best photos seem to shoot. The camera was quick to focus and took clear pictures. Also the 8 megapixel camera front shoot good selfies, and just as with the Xperia XA2 an extra wide lens for group shots.
Unfortunately, there are a few pijnpuntjes. So runs the device still on Android 7.1, and could Sony not tell us when or if an Android 8.0 update for the L2 appears. That is a shame, because Sony is usually relatively quick with updates. The Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact of last year were the first smartphones with Android 8.0. Also, the MediaTek chipset in the L2 just a little less powerful than the Snapdragon 430 in other models. It is possible that, in practice, however, because during our short test, the device is pretty smooth.
