Sony will kick in 2018 by the first new Android smartphone from 2018 to present. With the Xperia XA2, the Xperia XA2 Ultra and the Xperia L2 the company sets three mid-range devices down.
Sony Xperia XA2 officially unveiled
The Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra from march to sale, while the Xperia L2 in January in the Netherlands appears. The three midrange handsets, with prices between 250 and 450 euro. Despite the lower price point, Sony still has some surprises in store. As introduces it with the Xperia XA2 and the Xperia XA2 Ultra a refreshed design. Compared to the Xperia XA1 from 2017, the edges above and below the image a lot smaller. The screen is also up to the sides. For the first time Sony is also the finger print scanner on the back. Previously, it was processed in the power button on the side.
In spite of a relatively large size to 5.2-inch screen, is the Xperia XA2 still quite manageable. The device has a Snapdragon 630-chip, 3GB of ram and 32GB of storage. On the back you will find a 23 megapixel camera in 4K and slow motion can shooting, to the front, an 8 megapixel camera with wide-angle lens. Both Xperia XA2 devices running on Android 8.0, which Sony is one of the first companies in this price range with the new software.
XA2 Ultra: bigger screen, more camera’s
The Xperia XA2 Ultra has a slightly bigger screen of 6 inch, and therefore also a larger battery. To the front, a double selfiecamera: one of 16 mega pixel, one of 8 megapixel. With the second lens if you shoot extra-wide selfies, for example, if you group shots. This variant also has 4GB ram. The other specifications are the same.
The Sony Xperia XA2 has a suggested retail price of 349 euros, the Xperia XA2 Ultra is 429 euros in costs. Thus, the attractive alternatives to other mid-range smartphones like the recently announced Samsung Galaxy A8. That is in terms of hardware, similar, but a bit expensive than other models: € 499. The Sony devices will be available in different colours, including black and silver.
Sony Xperia L2: entry-level camera with excellent cameras
With a suggested retail price of 249 euros is the Xperia L2 the moment the cheapest smartphone in the Sony range. The unit does not have a borderless screen, but is equipped with a finger print scanner on the back. It is, however, the 5.5 inch screen is nice and large and has a hd resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels.
With 32GB of storage built in am you in this area as well. The back is a 13 megapixel camera on the front a 8 megapixel camera. However, the unit is less powerful, and equipped with a MT6737T-chip from MediaTek with four cores and 3GB of ram. Also runs the L2 unfortunately, on Android 7.1. It is unknown when or if the device is an update to Android Oreo receives.
